  • Harvest Mondays
    Help us harvest our beautiful bounty on a Monday morning! All produce grown in the garden is harvested and donated to Sierra Community House. We will spend the morning picking veggies and herbs that are ready to go, wash them, weigh and bundle them to deliver to our local hunger relief organization, Sierra Community House.   • Workday Wednesdays
    This is a great opportunity to come help in the garden during the week on Wednesday mornings. There are countless projects to be completed this season, and a whole flourishing garden space to be maintained. Tasks include watering plants, planting new seedlings, pruning plants, cleaning the space and assisting the Garden Director with any ongoing projects.   • Saturday Dig-Ins
    Join your community and help to revitalize the SFLT Garden spaces on Saturday mornings. On Saturdays we aim to complete some of the larger garden projects. The Garden Manager will be in the garden to help guide and teach the skills needed for the volunteer projects. There will be plenty of options to choose from, all ages, experience levels, and ability levels are welcome. Come for any amount of time you can spare.   • Youth/Business/Group Volunteer & Education Days
    Have a group of 5 or more? Contact us to organize a team-building work day and/or educational day in the garden suited to your group's skill-set and interests. Be outside, impact your community and have fun learning together! Events are free and donations are greatly appreciated.   • Gardens Manager (paid position)
    This position has been filled for 2024. Please welcome back Joey Eberhart as our Garden Manager! Our Gardens Manager position is one that reports directly to the Garden Committee and oversees all aspects of the SFLT Food Bank Garden. This position is a great opportunity to get your 'hands dirty' and learn all about organic, high-elevation garden management, volunteer management, and how to develop community. The Garden Manager requires a great deal of hard physical work, focus and care. It is also deeply rewarding. Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Cultivating the space: planting seeds, maintaining irrigation and garden infrastructure, and harvesting and preparing produce for distribution Overseeing and teaching volunteers for Harvest Mondays and Workday Wednesdays Helping with the new Truckee Community Garden (adjacent to the Food Bank Garden) Overseeing community compost drop-off - partly through running the SFLT compost collection booth at both Tuesday and Saturday Truckee Farmers Markets Leading tours and facilitating classes with local groups Organization & record keeping of garden production Sign up for a volunteer time Read more about the SFLT Food Bank Garden Read more about the SFLT Community Garden Read more about the Composting Program
  • Gardens Assistant (paid position)
    The Garden Assistant position requires a great deal of hard physical work, focus and care. It is also deeply rewarding. You will work under the direction of the Garden Manager. Duties Assist the Garden Manager with all aspects of garden operations in a way that fulfills the mission and objectives of the gardens, including: Assist with Installation and operation of irrigation systems. Assist with repair and oiling of garden beds. Seeding, transplanting, thinning, and fertilizing seedlings. Cultivation and weeding. Turning, watering and sifting compost. Harvesting, washing, weighing, and packing of produce for Sierra Community House or other organization partners.   • Skill Share Workshop Instructors (paid opportunities available)
    Showcase your food or gardening skills to the community! If you are looking for an opportunity to share your expertise with a group of like-minded individuals, we'd love to connect! Past Skillshares have included Canning 101, vermi-composting, Make Your Own Bone Broth, and Brew Your Own Beer. Workshop locations have included the Slow Food gardens, individual homes, local restaurants, and farms. Funding available depending on the class needs.   • Social Media Coordinator
    We are in need of someone to help us with our social media communications. Including creating/posting content and growing our audience. You'll be volunteering under the guidance of a SFLT Board Member. If you have time to lend and are interested in getting involved we'd love to have your help to get the word out about our programs and community events. Estimated 10-15 hours/month. Some experience with Facebook, Instagram, and/or Canva is necessary, learn more as you go! Complete the Volunteer Inquiry below and let us know how you can help.
  • Marketing & Design Assistance
    We are looking for someone to help with a variety of marketing efforts. Projects include hanging posters around town, updating online event calendars, sending press releases, copy creation & editing, artwork & graphic design. You'll be volunteering under the guidance of a SFLT Board Member, some experience is a plus. If you love the work SFLT does and want to help connect our community to our programs then we want to hear from you!   • Photography
    We love sharing photos of our garden, volunteers, and events to our followers. If you are interested in taking photos at an upcoming event that we can use in our emails, social media, and/or other marketing campaigns we would be forever grateful.   • Fundraising
    Fundraising helps us continue to offer our variety of programs and educational events and it takes a community effort to get it done. If you have a fundraising idea or opportunity that you'd like to help with let us know. Or, if you want to jump on board with one of our existing fundraising opportunities we'd love your support! Some of our previous fundraising events include Give Back Tahoe, Salmon Buying Club, Chef Supported Dinners, online auctions, and Girl Scout Bake Sales.   • Grant Research & Writing
    Grants are a major way we fund our programs and we are always looking for grants that fit within our program needs.
